What is a TMJ & where is it in my body?

The TM joint connects the lower jaw to the skull (temporal bone) under your ear. It's an area of your body that you will only start paying attention to when you experience TMJ pain.

TMJ disorders can make life unbearable for you. Everything from headaches and migraines, to neck and shoulder pain as well as the obvious clicking and locked jaws can be the result of a TMJ disorder.

You may have a TMJ disorder if you wake up in the morning with...

...neck pain or shoulder pain or headaches or migraines. Most of us put these common pains down to having slept the wrong way or a bad mattress or even an old pillow.

While all of these things may be contributing to the pain you suffer day in, day out, it's more likely that you suffer from a TMJ disorder. A TMJ disorders could be the hidden factor that is stopping from sleeping blissfully every night, but there is something you can do about it.

You need to work out if it really is important for you to lead a healthier, happier and more fulfilling life. If your answer is yes, then we can help you wake up feeling refreshed and pain-free.

Open your eyes, breathe in the fresh dawn air and, with it, all the possibilities this new day may bring.

What are the signs that I have a TMJ disorder?

TMJ disorders are most common in women, but some men do suffer from them too. Your TMJ may be the source of your problems if these symptoms sound familiar to you:
  • Your taking medicines to treat your headaches or migraines more than once per week
  • Your jaws click, pop, lock or become painful for no good reason
  • Worn or shortened teeth that don't have the natural curve around their edges or you know that you grind your teeth
  • Your teeth don't rest comfortably on top of each other when you close your mouth
  • You find it difficult, even painful, to open or close your mouth
  • You often seem to have a saw neck (or a crick in your neck)
  • Your shoulders and/or neck are tense and painful, or tender
  • Your wake up constantly with a headache or them regularly as your day progresses
  • You have a high-pitch ringing sound in your ear (tinnitus)

This knowledge and experience allows our dentists to diagnose whether your TMJ is actually at the root of these symptoms. If it is then they can also to help you fix this issue.

When nothing else is working for you, doesn't it make sense to turn to people who've helped countless others like you?
