You may also be saved from paying for braces!

What is Myobrace?

Myobrace treatment is a combination of exercises (breathing, lips, tongue position), correcting poor oral habits and use of a removable plate.

This combination of treatments can help your child with:
  • Aligning and developing the jaw
  • Optimising facial development
  • Correcting poor oral habits (eg: mouth breathing, thumb sucking)
  • Promoting healthy eating habits
  • Improving overall health
  • Straightens teeth (the happy side effect!)

How can Myobrace help with my child's everyday life?

The exercises and the Myobrace removable device is not just about straightening your child's teeth. It's a genuine pre-orthodontic treatment that is designed to help train your child in their everyday life to:
  • Breathe through their nose
  • Swallow correctly
  • Keep their tongue in the correct resting position at the top of the mouth
  • Keep their lips closed
You might have heard often that as parents you should wait until all the permanent teeth have come through and then see an orthodontist. However, often by that stage there has been irreversible damage that can lead to painful and expensive surgery and teeth extractions.

What happens if you don't get your child's crooked teeth checked now?

If the cause of the crooked teeth is not addressed early, placing braces on those teeth could be like rearranging deck chairs on the titanic - sure, they will probably look straight, but their could be a greater chance of relapse.

More importantly, if your child's breathing isn’t corrected early they could suffer from poor nutritional habits, sleep deprivation or even sleep apnoea, or if things are really bad then surgery might be the only option.

Intervening earlier can help with facial and jaw development. If braces are still needed, the results are usually quicker as the underlying cause has been addressed.

Can adults use Myobrace?

In some circumstances, yes! The results are slower, and only works for specific cases, but if some of the dental issues an adult is having is due to an oral habit, then a Myobrace can help not only stop that habit but also help correct some of the dental issues associated.

For adults who are conscious about wearing metal braces, but still want straighter teeth, Invisalign "inivisble braces" might be a more suitable option. Make an appointment with our approachable and friendly dentists to understand the options that are best suited for our teeth and your goals.

How long does Myobrace treatment take to show results?

This is mainly dependant on the patient. If they are wearing the Myobrace daily for at least an hour, as well as overnight, doing their exercises properly then we find treatment can be fairly quick.

However without compliance it generally shows very slow results. Typically we give 18-24 months for treatment to complete (depending on the age and problem that we are trying to solve). This example proves just how quickly Myobrace treatments can start showing results:

Initial crowding 9 yrs old

6 months into treatment

How much does Myobrace cost?

This is very case dependent, but typically treatment can vary from $500-$2500 based on the state of your child's mouth and the movement that is required to treat their issues.

By any comparison, Myobrace treatment is significantly more cost-effective than getting traditional orthodontic braces for your child. Think of Myobrace as a preventative treatment that can help us minimise or even eliminate the need for your child to wear braces.

Is Myobrace covered by health insurance?

It's best to check with your health insurance company. Even if Myobrace treatment is not covered by your private health insurance policy and you have to pay for it out-of-pocket, you may still be thousands of dollars better off than if you skipped Myobrace treatment and your child required braces.

The reason for this is that Myobrace is a pre-orthodontic treatment, which means that it can significantly reduce, if not eliminate, the need and scope of orthodontic treatment later. In short, if less Orthodontic work is required later on then those savings will probably outweigh anything you have to spend on Myobrace treatments now. This is especially true because most health funds cap the amount you claim for orthodontic braces to approximately $2000. Check out some of these examples where we assume that your child may still require some orthodontic treatment:

Consider this example WITH Myobrace treatment:
Myobrace Treatment Cost: $2000
Reduced Orthodontic Braces Cost: $2500
Health Fund Rebate For Braces: $2000
Total Out Of Pocket Expense For You: $2500

Now, consider this example WITHOUT Myobrace treatment:
Myobrace Treatment Cost: $0
Orthodontic Braces Cost: $6500
Health Fund Rebate For Braces: $2000
Total Out Of Pocket Expense For You: $4500
